I've been gathering up some old car parts in my room for the past couple years, I'm wondering what to do with them now.

Kinja'd!!!

I don't want to throw away things that still work, mind you. Should I sell them, or just get rid of them in another way?

I keep them in parent's backyard.

I have an old shed full of stuff I found here and there., I have no more room inside so I keep stuff that doesn't rust like old tires outside. It will be useful one day.

Keep them forever in boxes, much to the annoyance of my gf since they're everywhere.

If it's an original part being replaced with an upgraded one or some other modification, keep it. In the event that you choose to sell the car, re-install those bits and sell the mods separately. You'll get more money back than selling the car in its modified state.

I keep old parts incase a part I put on breaks. I'd start selling duplicates of things.

I threw out my old brake rotors...but my old (and quite blown out) shocks I sold to a guy for like sixty bucks...he had them revalved.

My old sway bars, springs, intercooler, and the like are rotting in my basement. I will try to sell them rather than keep them at this point, since the car will literally never go back to stock (and at the mileage I have, it won't make me enough money to bother).

I'd keep those for sure, there are some old bits that still work like new, but had to be replaced due to disassembling the assembly, like the front struts from the Jetta.

I've already thrown out old brake rotors, those are likely worn out to the point no repair anyway, after being 6 years on a car.

I have tendency to store everything that could be used somehow. And this isn't related to car parts. My apartment is pretty of (nearly) useless things.

Especially parts that have been removed due to some modification are impossible for me to throw away.

If you don't anticipate having a use for them in the future, there doesn't really seem to be much of a point hanging on to them. I someone else can use it, sell it, otherwise bring it a way for scrap; you'll get some money for that but you'll be best off bring a bunch of stuff at once as it doesn't pay too much.

with my Torinos spare parts I shelve them if they are still good if they have any indication of serial number specific part other wise I keep them around to have to rebuild later

You could make some weird trophy for WTCC winners, like this one at Circuit Paul Ricard :

I usually put my old parts in this guys room. He has a stash in there, so he hasn't been noticing that I've been adding my junked parts to it. It's a solid system.

Depends. Rotors, Scrap them.

Gaskets replaced? I'll put them in a baggy with permanent marker in the event I need to order another one. That way when I get the new part, I can confirm it is the correct one before I drop the engine to replace a rear main seal.
